Cannabis Store Protest In Vernon

Jun 18, 2018 | 7:41 AM

A peaceful protest is planned for this morning by the operator of one of the Vernon cannabis shops ordered to close for not signing as covenant to stay open.

Haisa Glaim with MMJ Total Health says their landlord wouldn’t the covenant and offered to sell the building if it paid a 25 thousand dollar non-refundable deposit.

She that’s a bully move and the city’s zoning details won’t be known for a couple of months.

“And that is to be released in late August – September I’m guessing. And at that time, everything is going to change again. The city, at that time, is going to say this is our new zoning, these are our bylaws and if you do  not comply we have the covenant signed and we’re able to shut you down now.”

Haisa says while sales aren’t allowed, the store will still help its clients.

“Our doors are going to be open as a consultation centre, education centre to help sick people that are confused and worried and anxious. And all of this stress and suffering may, you know, put people into more pain.

Glaim says the store is prepared to take the matter to court as a constitutional issue.

She says it’s a personal crisis on a national level and the medical system needs to be looked at.

The protest is to begin at 10 am from MMJ Total Health on 31st street with a march to the steps of city hall.
