Classroom Additions On Track In School Board Capital Plan

Jun 15, 2018 | 4:25 AM

The Vernon School District expects to move forward in the months ahead with classroom additions for four elementary schools.

School Board Chair Kelly Smith says some costs have increased due to construction and market conditions.

“But the order is still all there. BX Elementary, Alexis Park Elementary, Silver Star, Hillview all will get classroom additions eventually. That’s in our plan.”

Smith says BX Elementary will be the first school to get the additions with the plan calling for 8 classrooms and no portables.

Some playground equipment improvements will be done.

” We submitted three proposals and Mission Hill was approved. So that playground will move forward and we’re hoping for playgrounds for Alexis Park and Ellison Elementary in the future.”

The board approved the purchase of four buses to replace vehicles to be taken out of service.

The Capital Plan also includes a gymnasium upgrade for Charles Bloom Secondary School in Lumby as well as mechanical upgrades.

The earliest that work would begin is the 2020/2021 school year.
