Bike To Work Grows And Saves Gas

Jun 13, 2018 | 6:50 AM

A Vernon city councillor says the city’s efforts to become more bike-friendly are paying off.

Juliette Cunningham says the recent Bike To Work week saw growing participation, with over 12-hundred riders registering.

She says one of council’s priorities has been to add more cycling lanes for a healthier community.

“And even if they’re only using them during the seasonal months and not in the winter, at least for those ten months or eight months, whatever, they’re active. And I just think that’s important.”

Cunningham feels there is a connection to how much the city invests in cycling infrastructure, and the ridership.

Those who took part in Bike To Work Week covered ovewr 16 thousand kilometers, saving 36 hundred kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions.
