New Chiller Approved For Pat Duke Arena

Jun 8, 2018 | 7:10 AM

The RDNO Board of Directors has approved spending an extra 60 thousand dollars to replace the Pat Duke Memorial Arena chiller.

Originally, the chiller was budgeted at 150 thousand dollars, but the price has ballooned to 210 thousand dollars.

Board Chair Bob Fleming says there were no other options.

“The work was needed. They had to do it. But it is a little bit of a heads up that as Mayor Acton mentioned that some of these costs are getting pretty high and people that are running these facilities have to be aware of it.”

Fleming says it’s a sign of the times.

“They put out the tenders and the bids came in high. I think contractors are busy, whether it’s in equipment or construction and that’s reflected in the prices.”

The chiller is used to make ice.

The additional funding will be taken from the White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Reserve.
