Coldstream Fends Off Criticism Over Kal Lake Road Project

Some merchants in Vernon’s Alpine Centre are said to be upset about the impact and lack of notice they received on the District of Coldstream’s project on Kalamalka Lake Road.

The District is tying into Vernon’s project by adding a multi-use path from the Alpine Centre south to College Way.

Coldstream’s Chief Administrative Officer Trevor Seibel says they have only received one complaint about the work.

“The road has single lane alternating traffic right now to get people through to the Alpine Centre. Our construction schedule is the same as the City’s. We’re anticipating by mid July the works will be done,” Seibel tells Beach Radio News.

Seibel says Coldstream felt that tying into the Vernon project would minimize the disruptions.

“Construction is always a difficult time just because somebody’s going to be inconvenienced, whether it’s residents, the travelling public or businesses, so you’re trying to find a reasonable solution to try and mitigate the problems as best you can.”

Seibel wasn’t aware of the specifics about how the merchants were notified, but he says there was communication from the District.

“There had been communication from our end of it globally, about the project, and what was going on, and had been reported as to what was going to happen, so short of going directly to people, that can be a challenge,” says Seibel.
