Spike Belt Used After Officer Hit
Police had to use a spike belt to stop a driver in a pursuit that went from Kelowna to Lake Country.
The driver fled the Wilden area and hit a police officer when first approached around 10 am Thursday while apparently sleeping in a running vehicle.
“The driver did not comply with the police request to shut off the engine and he put the car in drive and began driving,” says Cpl. Tania Carroll. “While fleeing the scene, the police officer was hit with the driver side of the vehicle and suffered non life threatening injuries. The driver did not stop after hitting the police officer.”
A spike belt was laid down in Lake Country, which the driver went over, deflating some of the tires, but carried on before hitting a police cruiser and going into a ditch.
