Bogus U-S Money Making The Rounds

RCMP in Kelowna are warning of counterfeit money that’s been making its way throughout the Central Okanagan.

Police say they’ve seized several confirmed counterfeit US $20 and $50 bills from local financial institutions, after they were allegedly used to purchase goods and services from numerous unsuspecting businesses..

RCMP Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey says In most cases, these bogus bills are making it past the initial point of sale and being discovered by financial institution employees in the businesses nightly bank deposits.

Police say the fake bills are being passed at businesses such as casinos, thrift stores, sports complexes, drug stores, restaurants in both Kelowna and West Kelowna.

Business owners and operators are being advised to review their policies and ensure that their employees familiarize themselves with the detection of counterfeit currency.
