Funtastic Announces Music Lineup, With Country Twist

Apr 16, 2018 | 10:10 AM

The Canadian country rock group, the Road Hammers, will play at Funtastic in Vernon June 30, featuring band members Jason McCoy, Clayton Bellamy and Chris Byrne.

Funtastic is stepping up to the plate and delivering what its participants want.

President Rob Ellis from the non profit Funtastic Sports Society, says they will be presenting an all-country night on Saturday June 30th, including Appaloosa and the The Road Hammers.

“That is going to be a sold-out show. We already know it. They’ve got a huge following,” says Ellis.

Ellis says the move to a country night was what their patrons wanted.

“We sent out a survey this year. We wanted to hear from the locals, and from all of the ball teams that come from everywhere. And the resounding response was they want to have a country evening, and basically we filled that in.”

The rest of the A&W Music Festival lineup will include local bands on the Friday (June 29) headlined by the Young’uns.

The final night  — on Canada Day, Sunday July 1 — will be tribute bands, including the closing act, a tribute to the Tragically Hip, called the The Hip Show.

“It’s going to be phenomenal,” states Ellis, who gives credit to Tim Reardon, their music director, for lining up the variety of bands.

Ellis says tickets went on sale today at www.funtasticsports.ca, with prices staying the same.

“We’ve kept it true to form, so one day passes will be $30, and a three day weekend pass will be $60.”

Tickets will also be on sale in the next few days at their host hotel, the Village Green Hotel, and at Wings.

Two-hundred and 20 slo-pitch teams are expected to take part in the 34th annual sports festival, with all the activity at the DND grounds.

Proceeds from the event go towards Funtastic’s community grant program, which has given back over $1.7 million to local sports groups.
