Big Turnout For Job Fair

Apr 13, 2018 | 11:28 AM

The Vernon Job Fair this week was a huge success.

Coordinator Lee Brinkman with NexusBC says the fair drew 680 job seekers meeting with some 46 employers.

“It shows that our local economy is very strong right now and we’re certainly open for business here.”

Lee says employers appreciated the number of people who came in and found it a bit different this year.

“They were really happy with the event and with some more meaningful conversations. I guess we had a bit of an older crowd with this job fair, perhaps because we ran it not during spring break.”

She says 135 people were through the doors in the first 15 minutes of the  fair and the crowd stayed large through much of the day.

It was so successful that some employers are already lined up for next year, including a few who couldn’t get in this year.

Organizers hope to keep it at the same venue, The Vernon Lodge, because it works well, but admit as the number of people looking for work grows along with the number of potential employers, they have to look for something larger.
