Armstrong Approaches Flood Anniversary With Caution

Apr 12, 2018 | 8:37 AM

People in Armstrong will be keeping their eyes on the sky for the next few weeks to see how the weather is going to go.

May 6th was the day last year Meighan Creek flooded parts of the city.

Mayor Chris Pieper says after having an early bout of flooding already, people are concerned.

“Our public works crews are working on maintaining the culverts. We’ve checked the creek. We’ve got the culverts and were just hoping Mother Nature works with everybody this year.”

Sandbag stations the city set up for the public have been getting good use.

“There’s been a lot of bags filled and people have taken them. We urge people to get prepared. If you have a low crawl space or a basement close to a creek, move the stuff out now and get prepared.”

Pieper says you can never be over prepared for a flooding event.
