North Okanagan residents are being asked to help shape some major regional district policies.

An open house is being hosted by North Okanagan Regional District staff at the Vernon Public Library today, from 3-7 p.m.

Feedback is being sought on the new Open Space and Trails Policy, including the Okanagan Rail Trail, and the RDNO’s Solid Waste Management Plan.

“Input from the community is critical to help shape these services to meet the needs of the North Okanagan,” states an RNDO press release. “Waste management means looking at how we can reduce the amount of garbage we collect at our landfills.”

As well, the Open Space and Trails Policy will serve as a guide to future trail planning.

“We know that there is a high volume of people interested in (the Okanagan Rail Trail) so we will have maps on the wall where people can comment on amenities,” says Community Services general manager Mike Fox.

He says the comments “will set a direction” and staff hope to get as much information as possible from the public.

Fox says staff will also be available to share information on a number of services and plans, including the cultural plan and a proposed new cultural facility, the Master Water Plan, the Safe Communities Program and Emergency Management with tips on making homes flood safe.
