Enderby Strategic Planning

Apr 5, 2018 | 6:35 AM

Enderby Council is looking at what it’s accomplished in its strategic plan as its term winds down.

Mayor Greg McCune says the city appears to be on target for a couple of major projects.

“Salmon Arm Drive, they just started working on it this week, so that should be done in the next couple of months for sure. The bridge, which is a provincial project, that should be done by late May.”

McCune says there are a few other issues he’d like to see tackled, including improved lighting on the Riverwalk.

“We have a joint plan with Splatsin. So, I think now it’s time to sit with them and go hey, we thought this was a great idea three and a half years ago. What do we do? How do we make this into an actual lighted pathway and trail?”

A strategic planning session is set for later this month to touch base on what need to be done heading towards the October civic election.

Mayor McCune says one focus will be on development in the industrial park.

“I think just the awareness we’ve created there. Now it’s time to push that forward. Again, it will provide an opportunity for businesses to come in that will need employees”

Enderby obtained funds through BC Rural Dividend to hire consultants to help the park operators develop a plan.

McCune sees the balance of council’s current term as a springboard to another term.

He’s confident most members will be seeking re-election.

“We’ve got a fantastic city council so, you know, if the people believe we’re doing a good job, it’s time for us to start planning for the next four years. I think that’s the exciting part, is what do we need to actually accomplish that will, again, benefit the community.”

McCune says he’s hopeful of Enderby growing a community that it’s youth will see as something to come back to after furthering their education.
