Task Force Ready For Feedback

The head of a safety task force in Vernon is pleased something is being done to address the impact of street entrenched residents on local businesses.

Darrin Taylor of the Chamber of Commerce is chair of the nine person committee that will make recommendations to city council at the end of the process.

He says a town hall meeting Thursday night at the Schubert Centre will get input from stakeholders.

“We are hoping to get a good turnout of businesses and a cross section of the community and begin to identify what the issues are, and what some of the impacts have been,” says Taylor.

Taylor says he’s looking forward to hear what the concerns are.

“I suspect most of us who have followed the events the last couple of years, you can surmise the nature of the concerns and the sort of things we’re going to hear, but you don’t really know until you do it. That’s the point of these exercises.”

Taylor says the task force is holding weekly meetings, with plans to develop recommendations for city council later this spring.

“It’s a significant step to move from that, to say, there are some problems, but we’re a community that is going to step up and look at doing something about it. It’s too important to ignore.”

The task force includes reps from the business community, the City, the public, RCMP and bylaws.
