RDNO To Consider VSAR Request

Mar 29, 2018 | 9:13 AM

Regional District of North Okanagan Directors will now spend some time digesting a request for financial help from Vernon Search and Rescue.

The team pitched an idea at Wednesday evening’s board meeting for a three and a half million dollar Alternative Approval Process for a new headquarters.

Board Chair Bob Fleming says the board would have to vote on establishing a loan authorization service that would allow for the borrowing of the money.

“There’s no money in any pot somewhere that’s available to use. If that were successfull then also go through a process of either a full referendum or alternate approval process to borrow the money to fund the service.”

Fleming says it’s likely not going to be something that would happen quickly.

“It’s going to be a process. It would be unlikely to happen in a month. I mean if everybody was on board and things went really fast it might be done in six to 12 months. But that would be super optimistic.”

But he says he believes there is a lot of support for the search organization.

The search team estimates buying land would cost about one million dollars and the construction of the building would be about two and a half million.
