Salad Products Plant Hiring

Mar 26, 2018 | 6:00 AM

The company behind a new 60 million dollar business in Coldstream, will be starting to grow its products next month.

Vegpro International bought 700 acres from the Coldstream Ranch last year.

Jonathan Blais, Western Region Director, Corporate Development and Administration for Vegpro, says they will be growing spinach and other baby leaf greens.

“The remaining is called mesclun, which is a blend of about 15 varieties that includes kale, some spinach, arugula and other types of lettuce. It kind of makes the spring mix that you would buy at your store,” Blais tells CJIB News.

Blais says they’ve received hundreds of resumes after posting 60 management and supervisor positions online and hosting a job fair in cooperation with Community Futures.

“We did some interviews with the applicants. That went really well.”

Blais says those positions include quality manager, production supervisor, and shipping and receiving supervisors.

Blais says more than a hundred more workers will be needed for a packing house, scheduled to open in July.

“These are going to come in closer to our starting date, so we’re not looking to fill those right away.”

Some of the staff will be going to Quebec for training at the company’s operations there.

Blais says the steel frame for their packing house is going up at their site, north of Highway 6 in the Buchanan-Grey roads area.

The baby leaf salad products will be sold in grocery stores under the brand “Fresh Attitude.”
