Seniors Flooded Out In Armstrong

Mar 23, 2018 | 12:13 PM

It’s deja vu for Pioneer Square care home in Armstrong with flooding by Meighan Creek last night.

Noreen Gunther, the Regional Manager for Kaigo Senior Living Group, says the lower level got water.

“We have about two and a half inches of water throughout pretty much most of the lower level affecting nine suites, eight of them were occupied with seniors.”

Discussions are underway where they’ll end up.

“We’ve double bunked some individuals in some rooms and some are chatting with family to see if they’d like to go back home with them. So, right now everyone is safe. Everyone is dry.”

Gunther says some could be accommodated In Vernon.

Their suites were also damaged in last spring’s flood.

“We weren’t actually completely finished purchasing all of our content from the previous flood. Yeah, It’s challenging and of course we’re concerned for our residents and you know they’re troopers but naturally they are affected by this.”

She says it’s frustrating after last year.

Representatives of Kaigo made a presentation in December to Armstrong Council with suggestions.

Gunther says the organization wants to work with the city to find solutions.
