Kal Lake Road Project To Close Road

Mar 22, 2018 | 1:15 PM

The next phase of construction on Kalamalka Lake Road in Vernon is ready to proceed.

The City says work to add a multi use path from Browne Road to the Alpine Centre will start Monday (March 26) and continue to July 13.

There will be a full road closure on Kalamalka Lake Road from Browne Road to the Alpine Centre between April 9 and July 6 (13 weeks), 24 hours/day.

Single-lane alternating traffic will also occur, as required, from April 3 to April 9; and from July 6 to July 13.

“Vehicle access will only be permitted to residences within the fully-closed portion of Kalamalka Lake Road. As no through traffic will be permitted, all traffic will be required to use the detour routes,” says a City of Vernon release.

A 1.5 m wide walking/cycling path will be provided throughout construction.

“Businesses will be open and accessible on both sides of the road closure, so please continue to support our local businesses during construction,” says the release.

Vernon Transportation Manager Amanda Watson says there will be several detour routes.

“A lot of residents from Coldstream will go to College Way and via Highway 97 into Vernon. Other residents will come up Husband Road and then via Middleton Way and Highway 6 into Vernon,” Watson tells CJIB News.

Aberdeen Road to Highway 6 is another option.

Watson says there are no businesses in the closure area.

“The businesses north of Browne Road will accessible on Kal Lake Road. The businesses to the south of the close in the Alpine Centre and beyond into Coldstream will be accessible by Highway 97 and College Way.”

LB Chapman Construction is the contractor for the project, estimated at 4 million dollars.

Work started last May on the portion from 14th Avenue to Browne Road.

Businesses along that route have stated concerns about losing customers during the road work, especially once the full road closure takes effect.
