Winter Delays Rail Trail

It’s almost spring, but the Okanagan Rail Trail is not expected to officially open for several months at least.
Mike Fox from the Regional District of North Okanagan says the plan is to open the trail when it’s fully completed.
“The opening of the Rail Trail could be late summer or fall. We have to still do erosion work, and construction still continues in Lake Country. We still have some minimal maintenance that has to happen in the next few months.”
Fox says due to freeze-thaw over the winter, more rocks are falling off, and the trail is closed and should not be used at this time.
According to the Rail Trail website, 63 percent of the 48 kilometre trail has been funded.
The goal is to raise 7.5 million dollars for the trail from Coldstream to Kelowna.
