New Entry in Local Restaurant Market

Mar 5, 2018 | 7:00 AM

Consumers will soon have another choice when it comes to eating out in Vernon.

Mr. Mikes opens its 13th restaurant in BC Tuesday in Vernon, and its first in the Okanagan.

Senior vice president Business Development with Mr. Mikes, Rick Villalpando, says there’s a number of reasons why they chose Vernon.

“Vernon has always been one of our target markets. We feel that the brand really resonates well within that demographic. We also felt Vernon was a good place in the Okanagan to start because it has a very stable population base,” Villalpando tells CJIB News.

Villalpando says they love the location on 32nd Street, and plan to open a summer outdoor patio, after getting a variance from the city.

“That was key to our design. We really wanted that. We were very appreciative of that. That’s going to be fantastic for us and the consumers.”

Villalpando says they are a different kind of steakhouse, with prices in the mid-scale range, and a casual atmosphere.

“We call it ‘Steakhouse Casual’ for a reason. It has a price point for the consumer that is in that mid scale pricing range, so it’s very, very affordable.”

He estimates about 60 people will work at the 162-seat outlet.

The company has 38 locations across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
