Update: Info Sought On Possible Child Luring Incident

UPDATE

RCMP continue to investigate a possible child luring incident that occurred on Tuesday February 27th in the Armstrong area.

Since the original release, new information has surfaced in relation to the suspect truck involved.

The truck involved is described as being an older model Chevrolet Silverado with the letters “Z-71” on the rear passenger panel as well as may have branded lettering on the rear window of “Chevrolet.”

Witness reports also suggest there was a black pick up truck behind the white truck at the time and may have witnessed the event. RCMP would like to speak to the driver of the black truck that may have been a witness.

RCMP are asking for public assistance to locate a male driver who reportedly offered two children a ride home in Armstrong.

Police are treating it as a possible child luring incident.

Two middle school students were asked if they wanted a ride home while walking along Otter Lake Road, near the MacDonald Road intersection, Tuesday around 4 pm.

The driver is described as an older Caucasian male with grey hair and sunglasses, wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans, driving a white older model pickup truck.

Police conducted patrols of the area and the community but were unable to locate the vehicle or male in question.

“Our investigators are aware of the recent reports of similar incidents and are examining all of the information and continue to seek the public’s assistance,” says Cst. Kelly Brett. “Our communities should be mindful of these incidents and we ask that anything felt to be suspicious in nature be reported to the police right away.”

RCMP is asking the male driver to contact the Armstrong RCMP detachment in order to clarify his actions and hopefully shed some light on the reported incident.

“The children’s actions in this situation are commended as they declined to speak to the male, however RCMP are reminding parents to discuss personal awareness and safety strategies with their children,” adds Brett.
