Flagger Hit By Beer Can

Feb 27, 2018 | 4:35 PM

RCMP in Sicamous are looking for a driver who allegedly threw a beer can at a flag person.

The incident happened on Highway 1 west of the community on Monday morning.

The full can of beer thrown by a passing motorist, hit a male flagging crew member in the head.

It knocked his hard hat and glasses from his head, with the helmet preventing any significant injuries.

The offending vehicle was described as a small black car without a front license plate.

“The victim was unable to identify the make or specific model of the vehicle. The information was immediately relayed to the Salmon Arm RCMP to attempt to intercept the suspect vehicle, however a time delay in the report being made to police resulted in the vehicle not being located,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

Moskaluk says the incident illustrates the danger that highway flaggers face in their duties.

“The flagger could have easily been seriously injured by the dangerous and senseless actions of the person responsible for this assault.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878 or via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
