Games Legacy Fund Applicants Studied

Feb 26, 2018 | 7:50 AM

Several local groups will be getting some good news next month.

March 14th is when recipients will be announced for the 55-Plus BC Games legacy fund.

22 groups have applied, but that will be narrowed down by a review panel this week.

The City of Vernon’s Recreation Services Director, Doug Ross, says the fund is expected to total around 50-thousand dollars, but that could change.

“That’s still being decided because there still is an ebb and flow of some revenue and some minor expenses,” Ross tells CJIB News..

The legacy came from the 55-Plus Games held in Greater Vernon last fall, with over 36-hundred participants in 27 sports.

Ross says the succesful grant recipients still have to be approved by the 55+ board, and sent to the BC Seniors Games Society for approval.

Most of the applicants represent groups that promote active living for 55-plus citizens.
