RDNO Rejects Pickleball Reimbursement Request

Feb 22, 2018 | 11:12 AM

The regional district board has agreed with the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee not to reimburse the Vernon Pickleball Association for some unexpected costs.

The Association had asked for 95 thousand dollars for some unexpected pre-work at the Marshall Field site.

Board Chair Bob Fleming says it will have to work with what it already received.

“The feeling was that we’d granted 300 thousand dollars  towards getting something underway and it was up to them to complete the task to whatever they best could.”

Fleming says it may be that some of the amenities the association was hoping to include would have to come later.

“They’d have to fund raise and look at other ways to get the thing finished to the final level if you like at perhaps a bit later date that originally planned.”

Fleming says the grant was given because the association felt it could get courts up before a longer period of time in which Greater Vernon Parks and Recreation could and at a greater cost.

Fleming added they got the land for free and there are other groups out there looking for money.

He feels that as long as the weather cooperates the association can still meet its goal of getting the courts built by May or June.
