Lumby Considers Small Tax Hike In Budget

Feb 20, 2018 | 10:19 AM

Budget time in Lumby has council there looking at a slight tax increase of 1.86 per cent this year.

Mayor Kevin Acton says council is trying to keep spending at meeting inflation.

” I mean that’s dependent on so many factors at this point because it’s really early in the stage. But basically we’re looking at cpi again due to the amount of growth we’ve had in Lumby and some of the changes that have happened.”

Acton says there are no big surprises but some work to be done on berms and upgrades to certain facilities.

Otherwise,  all the departments are very good at keeping a close tab on things.

“We have a really sharp team. We’re very lucky. Our CAO and CFO do a good job in the managing of their departments. Nobody’s worried about losing their budget because if they need it, they have it and if they don’t need it we spread it around so it works well.”

Acton says there are some public works items that need replacing but most can be handled through reserves.
