Discussions On Silver Star Resort Association

Feb 19, 2018 | 7:18 AM

Efforts continue to resolve the issue of a proposed resort association at Silver Star.

The Regional District of North Okanagan has delayed its approval citing the need  for its own poll of residents.

A group called ” Concerned Citizens at Silver Star” accused the board of not knowing what’s going on up there.

Board Chair Bob Fleming disagrees.

“I would say at the administrative level, certainly at the level of most of the directors, everybody is extremely well informed about what’s going on up there. The issue is not around what people know or don’t know because I think the  directors have informed themselves quite well.”

Fleming says the directors find themselves in the  middle.

“It’s just that you have an extremely polarized  position from two different parties. One that are the rock-solid advocates of the SSRA that it should go ahead exactly as proposed and those that are completely opposed to the SSRA.”

He says there are discussions going on involving all parties to find a reasonable compromise.

“That would hopefully, if not satisfy everybody, at least make a situation that would have the community to be able to move forward and get away from the acrimony that’s been there.”

Fleming says for now the plan is to go ahead with the poll, but he’s hopeful the discussions will lead to an agreement that will make the poll unnecessary.
