Baby Boomers Lead The Way In Vernon’s Population Growth
The latest figures from BC Stats show Vernon continues to grow.
The city’s economic development manager Kevin Poole says the city’s population grew 2 percent last year, to 42-thousand 199 residents.
That’s better than the provincial growth of 1.3 per cent.
“So, Vernon as a whole, was faster than the provincial average again. I think that’s about three years running that we’ve held that,” Poole told city council.
Poole says much of the growth is from baby boomers.
“From 50 to 70 is that big boom period that we see, and you’ll see a lot of development applications and development activity is oriented towards seniors. So if you’re wondering why, well there’s a big demographic in the area that we can service.”
