Lippert Eyeing Run For Mayor

The race for Vernon mayor is starting to heat up — and the voting is still months away.

Wayne Lippert says he’s leaning towards running for the position in October.

“It’s a long ways to go yet so I’m not there yet, but it’s a serious contemplation, put it that way,” Lippert told CJIB News.

Lippert was mayor from 2005 to 2011, losing out to Rob Sawatzky to end his run.

The 62 year old says he’s received lots of support to run again.

“I’m getting pushed hard to go again from a lot of different areas of the city, so if there’s enough support, I plan to go. Carol (his wife) is good with it, and she’s behind me.”

Art Gourley — a painter who unsuccessfully ran for councillor in 2014 — has also said he will run for mayor.

Current mayor Akbal Mund says he will decide if he’ll seek a second term in the spring.
