Silver Star Citizens Group Say No Need For New Resort Poll

Feb 13, 2018 | 7:23 AM

It appears no one is happy with the Regional District of North Okanagan’s plan for a poll on the issue of a resort association at Silver Star.

Mike Lindsay with ‘Concerned Residents at Silver Star’ says there already is a public consultation process.

“It’s in the form of a petition. so there is already a public input process involved, but we want them to deal with what their responsibility is, and that is the bylaws and the maps,” Lindsay tells CJIB News.

Lindsay says RDNO’s mandate is dictated by the Resort Association Act of BC, but he says they never addressed that at last week’s meeting.

“We feel they’re actually scared, incapable, or not wanting to take initiative on their role in the process,” states Lindsay.

Lindsay says no one is happy with what the board did.

“They’ve just kind of gone around the bush.”

Lindsay credits Area C (BX Silver Star) director Mike Macnabb for doing a fantastic job bringing community concerns and issues forward at the meeting.

The task force supporting the designation also isn’t pleased, saying the board’s action, has left them confused.

RDNO chair Bob Fleming says they feel a poll is needed after one by the task force was fairly divided and wasn’t representative of the community.

The issue could be back before the board March 7 with some sort of question for the poll from staff.
