RDNO Considers Wildsafe Program

Feb 8, 2018 | 10:18 AM

The Regional District of North Okanagan is considering whether to sign on to the Wildsafe BC program.

Wildsafe coordinator Frank Ritcey presented the idea at yesterday’s RDNO Board meeting.

Board Chair Bob Fleming says while most think of the usual human-wildlife conflict issues that arise, he noted one point in particular.

“Indication that rats are now starting to become something that they’re dealing with. Certainly Kelowna and Kamloops are both experiencing fairly significant problems. He said a lot of that is related to poor choices on how both compost and garbage are dealt with.”

The board took the information for consideration and is expected to decide at its next meeting March 7th.

If it signs on, the District would pay up to $4,100.00 dollars for the service from May to November.

The Vernon Wildsafe coordinator would handle the region.
