Road Crews In Vernon Get Overnight Jump

Nov 10, 2017 | 8:13 AM

Vernon’s roads are in much better shape this morning..

City Public Works Manager James Rice says the snow ended just after 9  last evening, giving his crews a chance to get a jump on clearing.

“Crews have been pretty busy since that time plowing and sanding and all major routes at this point have been completed. the major routes are good.”

It helped not getting the overnight freeze that was expected.

Crews are going to be tackling residential roads this morning.

” Just a reminder to keep the vehicles off the roadways until the plows have actually made it through the neighbourhoods. It certainly makes it easier for drivers and also when you’re clearing sidewalks to shovel that snow back into front yard areas just to keep our roads as clear as possible.”

Those roads should be done by the end of the day.

Temperatures are expected to warm up into next week.

James Rice says that can pose other problems after such a quick, heavy snowfall.

“It depends how warm it gets and whether or not it stays warm overnight. One thing we’ll be looking for is potential flooding and keeping all our catch basins clear and clean.”

Rice says if people can shovel snow off a drain, do so.

If not, feel free to call the city about a drainage issue.
