Ban On Linear Park Shelters

Vernon council is hoping to prevent a repeat of homeless campers on 25th Avenue next year.
Council has passed a motion to ban temporary shelters at Linear Park as of Feb. 1, 2018.
Mayor Akbal Mund says many of the campers have already moved to a provincial site near 48th Avenue just off Highway 97 where they can build permanent camps.
“They’re all connected. They all talk to each other. I can see a lot more moving out there and that becoming the camp of choice, only because they’re allowed to build permanent structures,” Mund tells Kiss FM.
A City bylaw started in August in Polson Park forced campers to take down their shelters each day, and put them up again at night.
