Three Dead In Fernie Ice Rink Leak

Three people are dead following an apparent ammonia leak at the City of Fernie’s ice rink yesterday.

The city declared a State of Local Emergency last night due to a hazardous materials release threat to property and life.

It will remain in effect for seven days until October 24, 2017 at midnight unless cancelled by order of the City of Fernie or the Minister responsible.

Several homes and business in the vicinity were evacuated as a precaution and remain that way this morning.
