Speed Bumps Fine In Coldstream

Oct 16, 2017 | 6:58 AM

The Mayor of Coldstream doesn’t think there’s a problem with speed bumps on Kalamalka Road near Coldstream Elementary School.

There have been complaints they’re too high and there isn’t enough notice they’re coming up.

Jim Garlick says people may be driving too fast for the 30 kilometre an hour rule.

“I think if you hit them and you’re going 30 kilometres an hour, they’re not issue, but if you’re going much faster they are an issue.”

He says one driver hit one of the speed bumps at 160 kilometres an hour this summer, resulting in an accident.

Garlick says the speed bumps were put there to keep speed down in a congested area.

“We have municipal hall. We have a couple of churches in that area. We have the store. We have the school of course which has a playground people use all the time.”

As far as signage goes, the Mayor believes there is enough advance warning.

“And there would be one hundred metres before and then they’re also painted with the regular painting that you see with a triangle so you see them coming up. They don’t look like a regular crosswalk because it is a raised crosswalk.”

Garlick says people need to be paying attention when they’re driving and obeying the 30 kilometre an hour speed limit through the area.
