Vernon Lighting Enters 21st Century

The City of Vernon is in the process of modernizing its street lights.

The old high pressure sodium lights (HPS) are being replaced with Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology.

Mayor Akbal Mund says there is some initial investment, but the cost savings can be as high as 60%.

“This started about a year and a half ago. We did some testing in some areas and found it is energy saving. We can save about $95,000 a year by going to LED’s. That’s a lot of money,” says Mund.
