City Of Armstrong Sees Construction Growth

Armstrong Council has heard it’s been a strong year for construction in the region.

A report to council Tuesday showed the number of building permits issued is up considerably.

Mayor Chris Pieper says they’re up two and a half times last year.

“In 2016 we had 37 permits on 23 units for a value of 6.8 million and this year we’re at 60 permits and 38 units, which is housing starts and we’re at 15 million dollars.”

Pieper says it’s a sign more people are choosing Armstrong as a reliable place to call home.

“Well, I think we see the local people wanting to come to Armstrong. Our census proved we are expanding over the five thousand mark.”

Pieper says very good activity is going on and will help the overall business climate and confidence in the community.

Armstrong’s business community is gearing up for its next Business after Business event.

The chamber-sponsored evening October 18th will be held at at the Armstrong-Spallumcheen fire station.

Mayor Chris Pieper says it gives business owners an opportunity gauge the city’s business climate.

“Gives the business an opportunity to explain to the other members in town what they’re doing and what they’re business plans are and just goes to show what your neighbour’s doing.”

Pieper says it’s been a successful program over the last few years.

Meanwhile, Armstrong’s annual Fall Clean Up is set for November 4th.

Residents can leave branches and leaves at the front of their yard for free pickup.
