Labour Shortage Affecting Businesses

Oct 11, 2017 | 6:55 AM

The labour shortage around Vernon was one of the key concerns businesses had during the city’s annual Business Walks program.

Mayor Akbal Mund says it comes down to many people not wanting to work minimum wage jobs, and he suggests going back to the split minimum wage.

“Where students were given one wage, and people who were above 18 were given another wage. There was about a two dollar difference between the two. That seemed to work really well.”

The event was held to get the pulse of the business community, and Mund says all the merchants they talked to were fairly positive.
