The local theatre and arts facility has a new leader at the helm.

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre named Dan Proulx as their new executive director.

“I’m thrilled to step into this role and work alongside such an amazing team, one that is deeply dedicated to enhancing the cultural vibrancy of our community,” Proulx said in a release.

“I am passionate about the power of live performances to engage our audiences, and I am especially committed to supporting the incredible youth in our region as they find their confidence and voice through the performing arts. I look forward to bringing spectacular acts to Vernon and creating spaces where we can all enjoy and celebrate authentically human experiences together.”

Proulx brings over a decade of organizational leadership to the role, including five years as general manager of the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce, during which he led an organizational rebrand, developed successful community engagement initiatives, delivered high-profile events and programs, and even saw the Chamber recognized as one of Canada’s fastest-growing chambers in 2024.

VDPAC said that, along with this experience, Proulx will bring a strong commitment to strengthening the cultural vibrancy of the North Okanagan to the organization.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dan to the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre,” Norm Crerar, President of VDPAC, stated.

“His proven leadership, financial and operational experience, and strong understanding of our community make him an excellent addition to the organization. Dan brings an exciting combination of strategic vision and a genuine passion for community engagement. We look forward to working with him as we continue to strengthen VDPAC’s role as a cultural cornerstone of the North Okanagan and create meaningful opportunities for audiences, artists, and the next generation of performers.”

The non-profit arts centre added it hoped to see Proulx build on VDPAC’s strong foundation and help shape the future of performing arts in the North Okanagan.
