Public invited to support local seniors through Making Spirits Bright campaign

A local organization is asking for the public’s help ensuring seniors have a happy holiday.

NexusBC Community Resource Centre in Vernon has put out a call for the public to participate in the annual Making Spirit Bright campaign.

The campaign supports low-income seniors facing financial hardships, living alone, or who do not have any family nearby during the holidays, by having people pick up and fill a care box with thoughtful gifts, practical items, grocery gift cards or money, and a personal holiday message.

“Christmas can be a difficult time for seniors who are struggling financially or don’t have family close by,” Pam Myers, Executive Director of NexusBC Community Resource Centre, stated.

“Making Spirits Bright is a wonderful way for our community to show these seniors that someone is thinking of them. Every box is a reminder that they matter.”

People wishing to participate in the campaign and brighten the holidays for local seniors can pickup a care box at the NexusBC office on 30th Street. Filled boxes will need to be delivered back to the office by December 3rd in order to make it out to a senior on time.

The campaign saw 350 holiday care boxes distributed to local seniors in 2025.
