Sherwood Park, AB:  The Vernon Vipers staged a dramatic third-period comeback Friday night, overcoming a four-goal deficit to defeat the Sherwood Park Crusaders 5-4 in overtime.

Oscar Bjork scored the winner on the only shot of overtime, completing a remarkable turnaround that saw Vernon score three times in the final six minutes of regulation to force the extra period.

The victory snapped a three-game winless streak for the Vipers, who improved to 10-4-1-0 on the season.

Sherwood Park controlled much of the opening two periods, building a 4-0 lead just over three minutes into the second. The Crusaders appeared to have the game firmly in hand before Vernon began its comeback.

Jed Lake scored twice for the Vipers, while Aaron Zulinick finished with a goal and an assist. Tommy Karmiris also scored as Vernon capitalized on a series of late Sherwood Park penalties.

The Crusaders were penalized four times in the latter half of the third period, opening the door for a Vipers comeback.

Zulinick and Karmiris each converted on the powerplay to bring Vernon within a goal before Lake scored his second of the night just 22 seconds later to tie the game at four.

Bjork then ended the contest on the first shot of overtime, giving him his second overtime winner of the season.

Olivér Király made 15 saves in relief to pick up his first victory since joining the Vipers.

Vernon outshot Sherwood Park 32-31, including 17-6 in the third period. The Vipers finished 2-for-7 on the powerplay and killed off all four Crusaders opportunities.

Mavrick Brunet led Sherwood Park with two goals and an assist, while Dmitry Pavlov recorded a goal and an assist. Crusaders goaltender Ryder Shea made 28 saves.

The victory gives Vernon some much-needed momentum heading into the final game of its five-game road trip.
