Vipers rally past Warriors in overtime for sixth straight win

Vernon, BC:  The victory extended Vernon’s winning streak to six games and improved its record to 6–1, putting the Vipers atop the BCHL’s Interior West Division.

Pura scored with Vernon’s goaltender pulled for an extra attacker to force overtime. He finished with a goal and an assist and was named the game’s second star.

Josh Denes scored his first BCHL goal on the powerplay for Vernon. Ryan Fairbairn, Evan Schulha, Ben Trebicky and Toms Trockis also recorded assists. Trockis extended his point streak to six games.

Vernon goaltender Sammy DiBlasi made 20 saves on 22 shots for his fourth win of the season. At the other end, Ethan Sawyer stopped 28 of 31 shots for West Kelowna.

CJ Watson scored his first BCHL goal for the Warriors, while Emmanuel Chan added his league-leading 10th goal of the season.

Both West Kelowna goals came on the powerplay, making the Warriors the first team to score against Vernon’s penalty kill this season. West Kelowna finished 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

The Vipers went 1-for-3 on the powerplay and have scored a powerplay goal in all seven games this season.

Vernon next travels to Nisku, Alberta, for the BCHL Showcase. The Vipers face the Surrey Eagles Monday, October 12, at 5:45 p.m. Mountain Time, or 4:45 p.m. Pacific.
