Six-storey mixed-use development approved for Churchill Road in West Kelowna

West Kelowna council has approved a zoning change that will allow a six-storey mixed-use development on Churchill Road.

Council unanimously adopted the zoning amendment Sept. 22, allowing four properties currently zoned for single-family and duplex residential use to be rezoned to the Westbank Urban Centre — Commercial Core zone.

The proposed development would include residential units above ground-floor commercial space fronting Churchill Road.

The properties are located at 2515 and 2517, 2523, 2531 and 2529, and 2535 Churchill Road.

The zoning change is consistent with the city’s Official Community Plan designation for the Westbank Urban Centre — Commercial Core, which allows a mix of commercial uses and residential opportunities. The designation permits buildings of up to 15 storeys.

The city says conditions related to transportation approval, servicing, infrastructure improvements and building height have been satisfied.

The zoning amendment was adopted following council’s consideration of the application.
