Kelowna council candidate alarmed by crime, ‘running for my kids’

One of the 37 candidates running for Kelowna city council in the October election, admits it’s a cliché, but says he’s running for his two young kids.

Daniel Fritter said he moved to Kelowna a decade ago and it “felt like heaven on earth.” However, he said that’s not the case anymore.

Fritter said he’d had vehicles on his driveway broken into and been accosted on the Rail Trail. Also, he bemoans the trails littered with trash and drug paraphernalia, and the situation he said is forcing businesses to leave town and staff being confronted by aggressive individuals.

Among his focus points is the need to transition to a municipal police force to increase accountability, reduce crime and curtail vagrancy and open drug use ; partner with the province on a rapid transit line; and index short-term rental license fees to long-term rental vacancy rates.
