Traffic delays coming to Glenmore Drive as construction begins

Sep 8, 2026 | 9:37 AM

Drivers heading north on Glenmore Drive can expect delays starting Wednesday as construction gets underway on the city’s Glenmore Storm Trunk.

Northbound traffic between Mountain Avenue and Highland Drive North will be reduced to a single lane from Sept. 9 until mid-October.

Southbound traffic will remain open to two lanes, with a temporary lane shift in place to give construction crews room to work. The project involves upgrades to the Glenmore Storm Trunk, a key part of Kelowna’s drainage system that helps manage stormwater and reduce flood risk.

The city says the aging infrastructure will be renewed using a trenchless construction method, which is expected to reduce the impact on traffic while improving the system’s long-term reliability.

The west sidewalk and bike lane will also be closed during construction and detoured to the laneway west of Glenmore Drive.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible and follow posted signs, fencing and directions from safety personnel.

The City of Kelowna is asking commuters to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel through the area.

Road conditions and construction impacts can be checked through the city’s online road report.
