Provincial State of Emergency ends

Aug 27, 2026 | 5:10 PM

The B.C. government has ended the Provincial State of Emergency.

The declaration was made August 8 after the Bald Range wildfire forced the evacuation of the entire community of Summerland.

The State of Emergency (SoE) had been extended twice.

The SoE grants the province extra tools to respond to disasters such as by the ability to issue temporary travel bans, and to coordinate provincial and international resources responding to the situation.

Though the SoE is lifted, the province warned the wildfire risks persist and urged people to be vigilant and prepared for emergencies.

The ending of this declaration will impact existing States of Local Emergency, Evacuation Orders or Evacuation Alerts. It will also not affect recovery efforts.
