A longtime Kelowna business leader and educator is entering the race for a seat on city council this fall.

Laura Thurnheer announced her plans on Facebook, saying she wants to help guide the city through its growth.

The municipal election is set for October 17th.

In a media release Thurnheer said she has more than 30 years of experience and a keen focus on community development, volunteerism, and governance has entered the race for Kelowna City Council.

“I have spent the past three decades preparing myself for this position and the time is right” says Thurnheer. “I couldn’t be more excited and energized about the opportunity to take my community contribution to the next level. Our community is experiencing extensive growth, facing both challenges and opportunities, and we need the right city council to effectively and collaboratively steer the community forward.”

She is a Past President of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, current Chair of the British Columbia Chamber of Commerce, a Director with the KGH Foundation, and a BC Executive Member with the Institute of Corporate Directors.
