Vernon’s EOC continues to support evacuees

With a Provincial State of Emergency being issued, the City of Vernon said it would continue to help people impacted by wildfires.

Vernon’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remained operational Saturday, August 8, coordinating support for evacuees from the area wildfires and working with emergency response partners across the region. Those included people displaced by the Bradley Creek wildfire in the Okanagan Indian Band lands, and the Summerland residents evacuated due to the Bald Range blaze.

Evacuees were being provided connection to Emergency Support Services (ESS) at the reception centre at Kal Tire Place, and group lodging was being offered at the Curling Rink and Recreation Centre. Evacuees could access supports at the EOC, online here, or by calling the B.C. Evacuee Helpline at 1-800-387-4258.

The nearby Bradley Creek wildfire was not posing a risk to Vernon as of time of publication, but the city still advised people to be cautious with the ongoing hot and dry conditions. People were encouraged to report wildfires to 911 or to the B.C. Wildfire Service at *5555 on a cell phone or toll free at 1-800-3-5555.
