Man injured in overnight shooting in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY — Police in Surrey, B.C., say they are investigating an overnight shooting that left one person injured.

They say in a news release that officers responded to reports of shots being fired near a home in the Whalley neighbourhood just before midnight on Friday.

Officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and he was transported to hospital.

A suspect fled the scene.

Police say investigators believe the shooting was targeted and is not extortion related.

The department is asking anyone with information or footage of the area around the time of the shooting to report it by calling its non-emergency line.
