Final Phase of Sandbag Removal
The City of Vernon has started the fourth and final phase of its sandbag disposal assistance program along Lakeshore Drive.
“Phase four is where the City of Vernon is going to be collecting sandbags that residents have used as temporary flood protection. We will be providing bins to homeowners that are living along Tronson Road and Eastside Road,” says Tanya Laing Gahr, city spokesperson.
Laing Gahr says most residents are using left over sand from the bags in their yards, but the ones that get hauled away are taken to the landfill and re-used for other purposes.
“One of the things that we have noticed is that we’re not actually getting a lot of uptake o the return of sand and sandbags. and we think a number of homeowners are just using the sand on their properties,” says Laing Gahr.
Sand bags can be dropped off free of charge at all RDNO disposal facilities, at the city operations yard on 48th Avenue, and at the fill site at the corner of Okanagan Avenue and Okanagan Landing Road.
