One person deceased after fire at North Okanagan farm

Jul 23, 2026 | 12:07 PM

A tractor fire at a farm north of Lumby has claimed the life of one person.

At around 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, police and firefighters were called to a farm in the 1300-block of Trinity Valley Road for a report of an out of control fire.

The fire started from a tractor and baler then spread to the fields, nearby trees and a hay shed, which was destroyed in the blaze.

“Tragically, the man was unable to escape the fire and was found deceased close to the burnt-out tractor and baler” Cst. Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“Our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, and the community during this incredibly difficult time.”

B.C. Wildfire Service deployed bucketing helicopters while Lumby Fire Department crews attacked the flames from the ground, and the fire was stopped before it reached other neighbouring properties.

The B.C. Coroners Service attended the scene and was conducting their own concurrent fact finding investigation into the death.
