The City of Enderby is looking at allowing coach houses.
The idea is to improve housing affordability and add to the rental market.
Mayor Greg McCune says staff have been checking to see what other communities do.
He thinks site specific guidelines would better than a uniform regulation..
“We’re not that large of a community that for the maybe 15 or 20 of those that will happen over the next couple or three years we figure we think we can handle it best that way and then it’s just good for each neighbourhood.”
McCune says the process needs to be easy to manage.
“You want more density but you also want that neighbourhood, you know they move here for a reason. It;’s a slippery slope you want to make sure you manage.”
The Mayor says there are different details to consider in each neighbourhood and gives an example.
“Not so as he is going to put something right next to the deck of somebody who sits there and enjoys the view of the cliff.”
Parking would also be taken into account along with size guidelines
